MADONIA PAOLO was born in Mazara del Vallo (TP) on 22 August 1940 where he lives and works in via XXVII Maggio n° 17a, sculptor, painter and graphic designer.
Member of the sacred art commission and of various artistic-cultural circles.
He has taught at the Regional Art Institute of Mazara del Vallo (TP) and various city schools.
From 1966 to the present he has held 26 solo exhibitions at:Mazara del Vallo ('68-'70-'73-'81-'82);Marsala (169-'74-'82-'84);Catania ('70);Palermo ('71-'74-2006);Brugherio (Milan) ('71);Rome ('73);Terrenove ('74);Pesaro ('75);Castelvetrano ('83);Trapani ('83);Venturina (Li) and Florence ('94);Turin and Jesolo (Ve) (2000);Barletta (2001);Salemi and Montecarlo (2002).
He has participated by invitation in 90 national and international exhibitions in Italy (Mazara del Vallo, Campobello di Mazara, Erice. Riccione Piacenza, Santa, margherita Ligure, Rome, Torre del Greco, Santhià, Arezzo, Palermo, Venice, Cava dei Tirreni, Carosino , Brescia, Varese, Termini Imerese, Castellammare del Golfo, Trapani, Diano Marina, Montevarchi, Torre Annunziata.Selinunte, Monreale, Salemi, Catania, Barberino Val d'Elsa, Certaldo, Florence, Messina, Iglesias, Genoa, Taranto, Marsala, Pesaro, Milan, Cremona, Lucca, Lido Adriano, Petrosino, Sambuca di Sicilia, Alcamo, Castelvetrano, Spineto , San Cataldo, Turin, Barletta, Albano di Lucania).and abroad (France, Spain, England, Luxembourg, Japan, Poland, USA, Hong Kong, Croatia, United Arab Emirates, Portugal-Fatima).
Among these in six group exhibitions with the most prestigious Italian artists of international fame obtaining;two gold medals, five silver, nineteen diplomas of merit;a gold cross, a silver cup for woodcutting, seven purchase prizes, a personal gratuity;chosen in May '94 – two hundred and thirty art operators – for free collective participation with Italian artists for New York.
His critical-biographical information can be found in numerous magazines, art volumes and catalogues.Since 1975 he has been included in the "International Directory of Arts" in Frankfurt am Main.
His works appear in Italian and foreign public and private collections (Canada, USA, Spain, France, Switzerland, Burundi, Lebanon, India, Austria, Germany, Croatia, Montecarlo, United Arab Emirates, Tunisia, Portugal), and are found in stay in 13 galleries and 3 Italian jewelers and one gallery in Austria.
It boasts the presence of his works:at the headquarters of the Municipalities of:Mazara del Vallo, Trapani, Carosino, Santa Pola (Spain), Spinetoli, San Cataldo, Albano di Lucania.
He has done five magazine covers and three for some books;for TV and other mass media around 13,000 portraits of famous people and 250 works on dance and 150 on football.He signed thirteen T-shirts.
Three of his compositions and a bishop's coat of arms have been included on four bells cast in Burgio (Ag).
Since 1969, as an engraver, he has made hundreds of woodcuts (about 300), a dozen etchings and drypoints, some monotypes and several screen prints.
In 1973 he published a folder "FIGURES" of five monochromatic woodcuts, in 1994 another folder "DEDALO" with six serigraphs in trichrome, presented by prof. Giovanni Bonanno, art critic and professor at the BB Academy.YY.of Palermo."
Since 1990 with a new style, similar to that of the Sicilians Carla Accardi and Pietro Consagra, an acquaintance and friend, matured from a visit to the Venice Biennale and from the purchase in a Campiello of a volume on abstract art from the post-war period to the present day. he designed many tapestries, carpets, stained glass, flooring, jewellery, tiles and paraphernalia for multiples.
In 1990, together with other operators, he was invited by the ART GALLERY of Luxembourg to illustrate a company calendar with nineteen works to be disclosed in the 250 offices scattered throughout the world.
In 1992 he was invited to the SCULPTURE TRIENNALE in OSAKA (Japan), in 1993 he was invited again for painting and the following year also for graphics.
After the selection of some slides, requested in '93, he was selected for the KRAKOW GRAPHICS BIENNALE (Poland).
From 10 to 18 September 1994 he participated with flattering critical acclaim having a stand in VENTURINA (Li) in the V INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION OF PAINTING AND SCULPTURE " ETRURIARTE ".
The following December (7-11) he had a stand in Florence on the occasion of the "SHOWCASE OF CONTEMPORARY ARTISTS".
With reference to these last two personal positive news on all his artistic production have given the critics Raffaele De Grada, Paolo Levi and the Arab Barouni Said.
In August 1996, selected by an art commission, he took part in the second exhibition "Sculpture in Strada Spinetoli '96", donating the work executed on site entitled "Liberty" to the Municipality".
In 1998, invited by the European Committee for Art, he successfully participated in a course in watercolor at the Hortus Niger-International School of Figurative Arts in Brtonigla (Croatia), held by the famous Austrian watercolorist Linda Achleitner.
In 2002 he made an altarpiece for a parish in his city, he made two tapestries for Montecarlo depicting:"Dolphins playing with a buoy" and a portrait of "Mother Teresa"
On the anniversary of her death, the work was revived, accompanied by an interview of the author by the journalist Niktin of German National Television, in the context of a broadcast on the integration of North Africans with the inhabitants of Mazara del Vallo.
it is another occasion for the same reason of the Italian-Maghreb integration also the national television broadcaster La7 has taken up the same tapestry exhibited in the "Amai" laboratory of Mazara del Vallo.
Corriere della Sera sent the photographer Shobh of the Contrasto photographic agency to Mazara del Vallo for a report which also features Mother Teresa:an enlargement of the work was brought by the same in Calcutta to the great institution of the religious saint.
